Welcome back
Hope you have all had a fantastic holiday. I was eaten alive by midges, camping in the pouring rain at Loch Morlich. I survived! We are looking for a school to enter into the Games and Learning debate, to consider the value of a Wii in the classroom Could it be yours? Please contact me for further details.
Thanks
Anna
Have a good holiday.
Have a fun holiday everyone, and to soothe you after a year of hard work, how about throwing (literally) some sounds. Pianola is an interactive music making device which lets you make music using gravity. Try throwing the notes right to left. I found it very therapeutic.
Glow Messenger
I will be on Glow messenger for most of today (Wednesday) if anyone wants to try it out.
Microsoft Surface
Microsoft have released a multi-touch interactive screen. It’s one of those pieces of hardware that makes you go “wow”, and “I want one”.
I am thinking about how I could make best use of the “multi-touch” feature if I had one of these in my classroom, but not come up with much yet. Any ideas?
(I know it’s unlikely to happen soon, but maybe one day pupils will have these instead of desks?)
Mentor Inset PowerPoint
Hi,
This is the powerpoint from the mentor inset with the screen shots of the Myst Glow Group.
Thanks,
Anna
New feature – file storage.
We now have a place to store files which may be useful for our community (look in the sidebar).
If you have any files you wish to add to this folder, then send them to me, and I’ll add them.
It’s when attempting to do things like this that you appreciate just how user friendly the Glow system really is – ideally, I would like you to be able to add files yourself, just like Glow Groups would allow, but without giving you access to my own box.net file storage account, this is impossible.
Introduce Yourself
We’d like to hear more about you. Post some details about yourself in this thread -who you are, where you are based, etc I will add my own details soon.
Pay Attention
Thank you, I have found Teacher Tube. A quick browse and I found this ‘Pay Attention’ . What do you think as a Glow Mentor?
By the way how do you embed a video from Teacher Tube without having all the text below? And I couldn’t get the video to run past 05.54 – the ipod section! Hope you have more success.

Powerpoint.
Below is a link to an interesting article on effective use of Powerpoint. I’ve often found myself in meetings reading the slides and not listening to the speaker and wondered if there was any need for both. The point which interested me the most was “the best PowerPoint slides will be virtually meaningless with out the narration”.

How to contribute to this Blog.
At the moment, anyone can reply to the posts in this blog (adding comments), but you need to have permission to post your own thoughts or questions. In order to get permission, you will need to:
1. Register your own Edublogs account. To do this, go to http://edublogs.org/ and follow the instructions for Teachers, Librarians and Educators. You don’t need to create a blog – just create an account (the option appears on the last page of theregistration process)
2. Tell me which e-mail address you used to set up the account. I will then be able to add you as an author/editor for the blog. You can do this either by e-mailing me directly at my school account saddison@peterheadacademy……(etc…you know the rest) or by leaving a comment in this post.
